The present study investigated controllability of submaximal jumping distance in standing broad jump in the preschool children. Subjects jumped according to the instruction of `half\u0027 of the maximal jumping distance, and jumped to the one of the 3 target distances (`target jump\u0027). In the case of jump according to the instruction of `half`, the jumping distance of each subject was different from subject to subject. The range of the difference was about 50% of maximal jumping distance. In the case of jump to 25%, 50% or 75% of the maximal jumping distance, mean AbsE values, i.e., absolute value of the difference between the target distance and the jumping distance, was 3% in boys and 4% in girls, respectively. Accuracy of `target jump\u0027 in boys was superior to that in girls. Motor pattern of jump was not different between boys and girls. It was reported that amount of physical activity of boys was greater than that of girls in the previous studies. It was supposed that boys might get the more opportunities to practice to control of output of muscle strength than girls in daily physical play. Significant correlation was found between the jumping distance and the knee angle at the maximal flexion of knee during the preparing movement.
